The Music Industry Has Taken A Battering In The Last 10 Years From The Internet Due To Illegal And Legal Downloads etc; But Is There Anything Positive For The Industry

The last 10 years in the music sector have been hard. It has been widely reported that illegal downloads have been reducing the earnings of both the musicians themselves and their record labels. Despite lots of talk and action it would seem that there is not a lot that can be done to stop these illegal sites. Instead the music sector has had make an attempt to take control and has now embraced the download. By making paid downloads realistically priced and very easy to buy they have contained the problem to a certain degree.

However city centre shops are still having a bad time and their position has been made worse by the actions of the music industry described above. With legal, reasonably costed downloads available at every turn it’s no wonder the high street music shop is finding it tough. It is also not helped by technology, whole record collections can now be maintained, filed and played back through very small gadgets that are becoming more capable almost daily.

So has there been any area of the industry that has actually benefitted from the advances in technology that have occurred over the last ten or so years? One area that has without doubt had more exposure is the unsigned band. Previously the only way to succeed in the music industry was to somehow get heard and taken on board by a record producer. Then, and only then would things start to move. Now the situation is quite different and it is in no small way as a result of social networking sites such as Myspace and the birth of Online Marketing. The social networking sites enable would be celebrities to get their music heard by a wide variety of people at no cost. And if some Online Marketing methods were used to their individual websites these artists could potentially reach and tap into the enormous download market now being assisted by technology and most music producers.

In order to achieve the expected kind of money from their efforts musicians are now reverting to concerts, touring and merchandise. Of course this is super for the music lover, not only does he get to appreciate and help promote an enormous variety of artists in his chosen genre but he also get to appreciate them by perhaps the most rewarding method, seeing them perform or sing live.

Bands who can make use of this new opportunity stand to potentially reach a massive worldwide audience and by making the most of their internet site via Search Engine Placement can make sure that they have the potential to earn a good living and travel the world, meeting their fans. The key to it all is however their coverage. In order for Bands to make the money they need to develop the fan base that will pay for the concert tickets. Therefore the availability and success of their website is important. Spending on a Website Optimization Company may not have been top of the list for bands of twenty years ago but it is certainly a serious consideration now if they want to reach the mass market and develop the fans willing to pay for tickets at the gigs.
